Oman-based Asyad Shipping Co takes newbuilding tank-coating decision following announcements on fleet growth plans
Diversified shipowner and operator, Asyad Shipping Co (ASC) of Oman, has selected a tank coating supplier for two 49,200-dwt product tankers to be constructed at Lianyungang Wuzhou Shipyard in Jiangsu Guanyun, China.
The step followed fleet growth measures set out earlier in 2025, when ASC detailed plans to expand across crude and gas shipping backed by a multi-year capital programme.
In June 2025, ASC stated it intended to invest between US$2.3Bn and US$2.7Bn in fleet growth, noting that more than US$1.0Bn had already been committed for deliveries through 2027.
As part of those plans, ASC reported it had acquired two crude oil tankers to strengthen relationships with large oil transport counterparties.
Shipbrokers linked that disclosure to a US$205M transaction involving VLCCs Landbridge Wisdom and Landbridge Glory, built at Chinese yards in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
The company described the VLCCs as among the limited pool of modern units available on the secondhand market in recent years.
ASC also pointed to continued access to capital following its flotation earlier in 2025, stating it raised US$333M from domestic and international investors.
Commenting on the tank coating sale, coating provider APC marine general manager Onur Yildirim said the agreement in the Middle East was significant for APC.
“This is our first commercial deal with Asyad Shipping Co and we have been in talks with them for some time. We are delighted to be working with Asyad as they work to expand their fleet and look forward to growing our relationship,” he said.
