Brazilian oil major order will charter 12 platform supply vessel newbuilds from BRAM Offshore and Starnav for up to 12 years
Brazilian oil major Petrobras has signed contracts worth R$16.5Bn (US$2.7Bn) with BRAM Offshore and Starnav Serviços Marítimos for the construction and chartering of 12 platform supply vessels (PSVs). Of the total value of the contracts, R$5.2Bn (US$856M) is earmarked for investments in shipbuilding in Brazil. These diesel-electric battery hybrid PSVs will be essential for the company’s E&P logistics operations until 2028.
The contracts were announced on 12 December by Petrobras president and chief executive Magda Chambriard during the Plenary Meeting of the Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development (CDESS), in Brasília.
Ms Chambriard said the fleet renewal is one of the initiatives in Petrobras’ Business Plan for 2025 to 2029. “These new units will not only incorporate the latest technology, but also represent our commitment to sustainable and innovative best practices,” she said.
The contracts include up to four years for mobilisation and 12 years of operation, in addition to a requirement of 40% local content during the construction phase. BRAM Offshore and Starnav will each build six PSVs at their own shipyards in Navegantes and Itajaí, respectively.
