On 28 May, Milford-Haven-based Dragon LNG terminal experienced a high-potential near miss when a component detached during unloading arm connection
At the time of connection and when the parking stop detached from the loading arm, three members of Dragon LNG staff and two members of crew were in proximity. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The component was identified as an outboard arm parking stop weighing 27.4 kg which fell from approximately 12 m. The stop was not in use at the time of the incident.
Initial investigations indicate corrosion led to a failure of the retaining clamp.
The purpose of Dragon LNG issuing this safety flash is to make users of similar equipment aware of the potential for failure.
A parking stop on an LNG loading arm is a safety feature that ensures the loading arm is safely stowed away when not in use.
