Samson, the high-performance synthetic rope solutions provider, unveils Defender Fuse, an overload warning system that enhances safety and mitigates snapback incidents in mooring systems
Designed to seamlessly integrate with existing setups, Defender Fuse accurately accounts for total system energy, making it a versatile solution for a wide range of applications.
Unique in its ability to integrate into any mooring system without the need for line replacement, Defender Fuse considers the full spectrum of system energy, ensuring comprehensive protection in various scenarios.
While conventional snapback technologies focus solely on individual mooring components, Samson engineered Defender Fuse to address the entire mooring system’s energy absorption, including the stiff, high-performance mooring lines and elastic tails prevalent in the industry.
Positioned between the mainline and the tail, or between the tail and on-shore connection, Defender Fuse comprises two types of ropes. When triggered, the load is transferred from the high modulus polyethylene strength component to loops of a specially designed high-elongating material, known as the ’catch.’ Reducing recoil situations proactively, the elongating material stretches out gradually until it reaches a maximum extension, up to 150% of its original length, providing an early warning mechanism and allowing crew members to ensure timely intervention and minimise load.
With its safety features and compatibility with standard mooring systems, Defender Fuse ushers in a new era of reliability and risk prevention in marine operations. This breakthrough product reaffirms Samson’s commitment to enhancing performance and safety across the maritime landscape.
