Draft amendments to Solas regulation V/19 submitted by Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden were scheduled to be considered by the IMO sub-committee on safety of navigation at NAV 53 (July 23-27 2007).*
Regulation 19 relates to carriage requirements for shipborne navigational systems and equipment. The draft amendments recommend that passenger ships engaged on international voyages shall be fitted with ecdis in line with the following implementation schedule:
• passenger ships of 500gt and upwards, constructed on or after 1July 2010.
• passenger ships of 500gt and above, constructed before 1July 2010, not later than 1July 2011.
*Note: at the July meeting, no decision was taken regarding ecdis. Member states were invited to make submissions on the subject to Nav 54 in 2008. FT
