Capital Gas Ship Management has reported the delivery of its 22,000-m3 multi-gas CO2 carrier
Capital Gas Ship Management (CGSM) has taken delivery of Active, with its US-based Capital Clean Energy Carriers (CCEC) describing the vessel as “the world’s first 22,000-m3 low-pressure liquid CO2 multigas carrier”.
Active was delivered by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co Ltd, and is the first of four 22,000-m3 LCO2 and multi-gas sister carriers due for delivery in 2026.
The ship was designed to transport LCO2 with multi-cargo capability covering LCO2, LPG, ammonia and selected petrochemicals. Its delivery followed low-pressure cargo system trials reported by Capital Gas Ship Management.
Active completed a two-week CO2 gas trial campaign using “low-pressure technology” at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, and more than 54 truckloads of “domestically sourced CO2” supported validation of the cargo tanks and cargo management systems. It characterised the design point as “next-generation low-pressure technology (8.0 barg/-55°C)”.
CCEC said the ship will enter service under a six-month time charter transporting LPG for an unnamed energy trading company, with a potential extension of six months on the contract. The company said that the vessel is ’easily the largest vessel of its type yet built’.
