Vitol completes inaugural bio-fuel delivery in the UAE
Vitol has successfully completed its first biofuel deliveries in Fujairah, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to sustainable fuel solutions.
Through its wholly owned bunker arm, Vitol Bunkers, two vessels received B24 VLSFO on 8 and 14 December 2023.
The fuel was sourced from its Fujairah-based refinery FRL and blended with regionally sourced biofuel at associated company VTTI storage facilities.
Aframax trade boost
Poten & Partners has looked at the impact of the 2024 Trans Mountain expansion project, which will bring up to 890,000 b/d through the Westridge marine terminal in Vancouver of the west coast of Canada.
It could mean one Aframax loading per day and Poten & Partners concluded that while there is no easy match to current trading patterns, a specific Aframax trade could develop in the North Pacific.
Tanker shore power
Classification society DNV has issued an update to its Shore Power class notation for tankers. The rules take into account changes in legislation: California Air Resources Board’s Ocean-Going Vessels At-Berth Regulation requires tankers to have emissions control strategies in place at specific Californian ports from January 2025.
DNV is involved in several studies regarding cold-ironing and tankers, and is considering offering a Shore Power-ready qualifier for ships prepared for conversion.
The latest update, available from DNV, describes in the requirements that a power cable connecting point must meet to ensure a safe electrical connection and prevent explosion or other hazards, along with protection for the cable.
