Both agreements include direct support for Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s decarbonisation initiatives, such as using biofuels, technical and operational improvements to the existing fleet, and developing new technologies
The contracting parties went unnamed, but Wallenius said the shipping contract with an "equipment manufacturer in construction and mining equipment" has a duration of three years, plus a two-year extension option. The contract is valued at approximately US$1Bn in total, based on expected volumes over three years.
Wallenius called the company a “key long-term partner”, the renewed agreement commenced in November 2023, with amended rates in line with current market levels.
In addition, the multi-year shipping contract is with a large automotive distributor in the Americas. The contract commences this year and is valued at approximately US$200M based on anticipated volumes over two years and “rates are in line with present market levels.”
“Continuing our positive start to 2024, these two separate, significant multi-year contracts further strengthen our existing partnerships with key customers in the high and heavy and automotive segments, extending predictability for both the customer and Wallenius Wilhelmsen” said Wallenius Wilhelmsen chief customer officer Pia Synnerman.
