Testimonials from attendees of Riviera’s Responsible Ship Recycling Forum in Brussels gave high praise for the event’s location, content, range of international attendees and audience engagement.
Discussions focused on promoting transparency, improving standards, and driving positive change in the sector, with a particular emphasis on the impact of upcoming regulations such as the Hong Kong Convention, the EU Ship Recycling Regulation and the Basel Convention.
There was particular appreciation for the innovative solutions that were presented and the lively discussions on the end-of-life considerations for vessels, including decarbonised logistics and the demand for green steel.
Attendees said they emerged with an enhanced understanding of the forces shaping the ship recycling industry and the likely timing of an expected surge in recycling demand as greater numbers of older vessels fall outside the age range that charterers are willing to accept and new orders for vessels operating on new fuels are placed.
The choice of Brussels and the timing of the conference were strategic decisions that also boosted the event’s value and relevance for attendees. In particular, holding the conference in this city provided attendees with a unique opportunity to directly engage with policymakers, regulators and other influential stakeholders.
The Responsible Ship Recycling Forum is held annually in Europe. We will also organise a Ship Recycling Webinar Week at the beginning of October.
