A shipyard in Turkey is building at least three tugs with 55 tonnes of bollard pull for handling Romanian naval ships
Med Marine has started construction of three harbour tugboats for the Romanian Navy at its shipyard in Eregli, on Turkey’s Black Sea coast.
It is building these 25.4-m tugs to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAmparts 2500-SD design with a beam of 11 m, a draught of 5 m, a bollard pull of at least 55 tonnes, and a top speed of 12 knots.
Med Marine held a steel-cutting ceremony on the first of these 316-gt tugs at the shipyard on 15 April.
When completed, these tugboats will provide ship towage and support naval operations in Romanian ports and emergency response missions.
The vessels would be tailored for demanding naval and port operations, said the shipbuilder.
Med Marine chairman Recai Hakan Sen said the vessels “will not only serve operational needs but also contribute to maritime safety and the protection of shared maritime space.”
In attendance at the steel-cutting ceremony were executives, officers and representatives from the Romanian Navy, Romtehnica – the export-import directorate within the Ministry of National Defense, trade broker Trimarin, and dignitaries from the Eregli area.
