A south Asian vessel classification society is ready to use virtual twins of ships using 3D modelling software to enhance classification and regulatory compliance throughout their lifetime
Indian Register of Shipping is using virtual twins of ships, made using 3D computer modelling, for lifecycle assessments.
The classification society will also offer digital solutions to shipowners, operators and shipbuilders to connect the physical and virtual models.
Indian Register said digital twins will enable ships to be assessed, classed and managed with greater accuracy, transparency and efficiency across their entire lifecycle. This digital initiative is expected to generate benefits beyond ship classification, including seamless collaboration between stakeholders, enhanced regulatory compliance and actionable insights to support sustainability.
“The adoption of the virtual twin marks a transformative step in Indian Register’s digital journey,” said Indian Register of Shipping’s managing director P K Mishra.
“It reflects our commitment to delivering smarter, faster and more sustainable classification services. By harnessing the power of digital technology, we are not only strengthening safety and compliance but also empowering our stakeholders to accelerate innovation and achieve their sustainability goals with confidence.”
Indian Register is using Dassault Systemes digital platform 3DExperience to create virtual twins of ships for lifecycle assessments and 3D classification. This is seen as a milestone in the class society’s drive to implement a new generation of classification services.
