Korean Register has introduced artificial intelligence into its web-based services, enabling optimised searches of maritime conventions and class requirements
Korean Register (KR) has enhanced its compliance software by introducing an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven search application of its digital database.
Its latest version of KR-Con has functionality designed to help users more efficiently navigate and verify applicable regulatory requirements. Users can search international maritime convention documents and classification rules to retrieve relevant regulatory information more quickly and with greater accuracy.
Another function identifies applicable conventions based on specific entry-into-force dates, while a feature will display updates and amended documents.
KR-CON version 24 includes amendments adopted at key IMO meetings in 2025, including the 34th IMO Assembly, the 110th session of the Maritime Safety Committee and the 83rd session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee.
Updates to major international conventions such as SOLAS and Marpol, and newly adopted instruments, will continue to be added as they are adopted.
“Through this upgrade, we have significantly improved accessibility to convention information and search efficiency,” said Korean Register general manager of convention and legislation services, Hoijun Kim.
“Looking ahead, we plan to adopt Agentic retrieval and augmented generation AI-based search technology that retrieves external data, generates responses and incorporates autonomous decision-making to further advance KR-CON.”
With these additions, KR-CON will be able to autonomously explore and verify information.
