Shipyard De Hoop in the Netherlands has secured a contract for a 70m x 15.8m PSV for Delta Logistics Ltd in Trinidad. “This vessel heralds the next generation of De Hoop PSVs, coming as a further development of De Hoop’s KISS design that was recently built and delivered for Pemex in Mexico,” the yard said. The vessel, with deepwater capabilities, will operate in the offshore fields near Trinidad and Tobago. The PSV is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2014.
“This latest evolution of the KISS design has been widened to 15.8m to allow for a deadweight of over 2,500 tonnes,” said the yard. “The hullform is optimised for fuel-efficient operations, during transit and in DP mode. It will be fitted with a specially developed bulbous bow, designed to maintain a service speed of 12 knots.”
In close consultation with the yard, Delta chose a diesel-electric propulsion concept to achieve enhanced flexibility and economical superiority. As with the KISS design, the generators are located on the main deck. This not only allows much larger cargo volumes, but also easier access for maintenance.
