Abu Dhabi-based Gulf Marine Services (GMS) is building its third E-Class jack-up vessel, GMS Enterprise, which when complete will join its two earlier built sisters. The company has a further option to build a fourth E-Class vessel.
GMS Enterprise is an E-Class self-propelled, self-elevating accommodation DP2 jack-up barge. It is capable of providing well service, construction and installation, and has accommodation capabilities for up to 150 people. It has a 400-tonne crane and can operate in water depths of up to 80m.
The jacking speed to move from one location to the next infield is faster and safer with four legs as no ballast is required, and the weather window required to make the move is a few hours, compared to the average of three days.
The DP2-class dynamic positioning allows the vessel to move independently, with no need for anchor-handling or tug support. Power for its four 1,200kW azimuthing thrusters is provided by a quartet of Wärtsilä 8L20 engines each producing 1,600kW at 1,000 rpm. Speed is a creditable 8 knots.
With the exception of the 3,000 tonnes of prefabricated steel from China, the modified Gusto jack-up will be built in Abu Dhabi, with the detailed design, jacking system and outfitting completed by GMS’ inhouse team and a local labour force. OSJ
