Gulf Oil Marine has received a no-objection letter (NoL) from engine manufacturer Man Energy Solutions for its CAT II 40BN cylinder oil – GulfSea Cylcare XP 5040X
GulfSea Cylcare XP 5040X is a high-performance lubricant designed to operate effectively in low-sulphur fuel operations in marine two-stroke engines.
The lubricant manifaturer said it uses an innovative dispersant technology combined with non-alkaline detergents, anti-oxidant and wear protection chemistries.
A statement from Gulf Oil said, “The product has undergone extensive testing in laboratories and in a test engine where it’s subjected to real-world operating conditions. And it has clearly proven itself – the MAN NoL bears testimony to its ultimate performance.”
Analysts project an increase in the uptake of two-stroke, dual-fuel engines with the segment set to grow over the next three years. The percentage of the LNG carrier fleet operating with two-stroke, dual-fuel propulsion – either high-pressure, Diesel-cycle MAN ME-GI or low-pressure, Otto-cycle WinGD engines – will more than double, according to data from Poten & Partners.
Engine manufacturers MAN and WinGD have also approved the use of Mitsubishi’s MET-MBII Series turbochargers on MAN’s two-stroke diesels and WinGD’s X-DF engines.
