Neptune Marine has delivered a new specialist workboat to a Canadian owner as it ramps up production of its EuroCarriers
The Dutch builder completed Tidal Pioneer in Q3 2021 and delivered it to Sustainable Marine to support tidal energy projects in Nova Scotia.
This was built to Neptune’s EuroCarrier 2611 design for workboats with towing and offshore lifting capabilities. It is classed by Bureau Veritas and operates under the Canadian flag.
Tidal Pioneer has an overall length of 26 m, beam of 11 m and draught of 3.2 m, providing a stable platform to support offshore renewables in shallow waters. It also has a 25-tonne, four-point mooring system for operation in currents of 7 knots and dynamic positioning to DP1 class.
Tidal Pioneer’s towage capabilities come from a 100-tonne anchor handling winch, a towing winch of 50 tonnes and a 15-tonne tugger winch. During tests, the vessel reached a bollard pull of 34.7 tonnes and a speed of 10.3 knots.
Neptune is building more EuroCarriers for its own fleet or to sell on. This includes a EuroCarrier 2611, a smaller EuroCarrier 2209 design and a larger workboat to EuroCarrier 3413 design for an unnamed client, a Neptune engineer told Riviera Maritime Media during Europort 2021.
The engineer also said there were plans to build a EuroTug with 35 m length and 15 m width and with hybrid propulsion in the future.
Most of Neptune’s workboats are built with propulsion complying with IMO Tier III requirements.
Tidal Pioneer’s propulsion comes from two Caterpillar C32 caterpillars main engines, which drive two 1.85-m propellers through Masson gearboxes and its two Volvo D13 generator sets are also IMO Tier III compliant. On the fore deck there is a Heila 230-4SL deck crane. Tidal Pioneer also has a Heila 140-3S crane on the aft deck.
In Q3 2021, Neptune Marine delivered a multipurpose tractor tug to Antwerp, Belgium-headquartered Verbeke Shipping. Condor is a 24-m tug with a 10-m beam and draught of 4 m. It was built to a EuroTractorTug 2410 design and Bureau Veritas-class, with IMO Tier III-compliant propulsion.
Neptune built this tug at its facilities in Aalst with 27 tonnes of bollard pull and a maximum speed of 11 knots. It has two C32 main engines, generating 970 kW of propulsion power, and two Volvo D7A generator sets.
Condor is equipped with Voith propellers, a 60-tonne towing winch, an A-frame with a dredging plough and a compact deck crane.
Neptune operates a fleet of 50 vessels including tugs, multipurpose workboats, jack-up vessels and pontoons.
