A leading Turkish tugboat owner has taken delivery of a newbuild ship escort and handling vessel with emissions-reduction technology from its own shipyard
A new RAstar 2800 series tugboat has been delivered to enhance ship towage in Turkey after its construction by Uzmar Shipyard. Efes 10 has been introduced into its fleet after being built to a Robert Allan Ltd design with 85 tonnes of bollard pull, making it the most powerful harbour tug in the fleet.
It has two main Rolls-Royce mtu diesel engines, linked to a selective catalytic reduction unit to minimise NOx from its exhaust and comply with IMO Tier III emissions standards, driving two Kongsberg Maritime azimuth thrusters.
Efes 10 has a FiFi1 fire-fighting system, an escort-rated winch on the fore deck, an aft towing winch, towing pin system and deck crane, to enable it to complete ship towage, offshore operations and emergency rescue missions.
“Delivery of Efes 10 underlines our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational safety, environmental responsibility and fleet modernisation,” said Uzmar chief executive Noyan Altug.
“With this latest addition, we strengthen our position as a leader in the Turkish maritime industry. Commissioning Efes 10 marks a new chapter in Uzmar’s ongoing efforts to provide maritime solutions and to continue to innovate and expand. Efes 10 will play a vital role in ensuring safer and more efficient operations in Turkish ports.”
