Piraeus, Greece-headquartered vessel operator Sun Enterprises will add Space X’s low earth orbit (LEO) connectivity to its existing Marlink hybrid network on its tankers and bulk carriers to accelerate its digital transformation
Sun Enterprises will use Marlink’s Sealink NextGen service to improve the safety and reliability of operations on up to 20 tankers and dry bulk carriers in its fleet.
“We operate on core values that demonstrate a commitment to running our business with safety, professional integrity, innovation, diligence and teamwork and this DNA demands we adopt new approaches to our clients’ demands,” said Sun Enterprises ICT manager Konstantinos Tsalikis.
“Our work with Marlink has demonstrated they can provide the best solutions in any combination that can scale as we move forward with more advanced business processes.”
Sealink NextGen combines very small aperture terminal (VSAT) from geostationary orbiting satellites with L-band back-up and a mix of LEO and 5G connectivity with digital solutions, all controlled and managed via Marlink’s Xchange platform.
Xchange ensures critical connectivity is always maintained, powering applications for business and crew.
Sun Enterprises, which previously added VSAT to existing L-band communications, expects the Starlink addition to bring much faster throughput and lower latency to its business and crew communications.
Sealink NextGen will take advantage of software-defined routeing, with applications assigned channels and priority for seamless data delivery.
