Daehan Shipbuilding Group, which controls three shipyards at Hwahan, Tolson Island and Yosu in South Korea, has been taken over by Korean Heroes Investments for US$148M and rebranded DH Shipbuilding
The South Korean shipyard is a favourite with Greek tanker owners and operators, with the current orderbook of 16 tankers comprising of six LR2 tankers for Tsakos Energy Navigation, three Aframax tankers for Atlas Maritime (Leon Patitsas interests), two Aframax tankers for Pleiades Shipping (Constantine Peraticos interests), and two LR2 tankers for Eastern Mediterranean (Thanasis Martinos interests).
In addition, there is one LR2 tanker apiece on order for Chandris (John and Michael Chandris interests), Enesel (Lemos family interests) and Neda Maritime (Lykiardopoulos family interests).
Clarkson Research Services reported that Euronav has placed an order for two Suezmax tankers for 2024 delivery from the rebranded shipyard, and that Atlas Maritime has added two Aframax tankers for 2025 delivery to its existing orders, which seems to indicate all tanker slots for 2024 have been filled.
KHI is part of the Hantu SG PE Consortium which also purchased STX Offshore & Shipbuilding (now K Shipbuilding) in 2021.
