Veripos extends African differential GPS service

Aberdeen-based Veripos has extended its multi-source African differential GPS service with the establishment of new reference station facilities at Cape Town, South Africa, in response to increased exploration and development of oil and gas basins in that region.

The African network currently provides a comprehensive DGPS service for high-accuracy coverage of all West Africa from Morocco to South Africa, with users including leading operators of 3D seismic, survey and DP construction vessels.

Complementing the West African network of reference stations, the new facility provides proprietary Veripos Standard DGPS service for multi-station positioning solutions with enhanced precision and reliability. Available service accuracies, compatible with all types of GPS receiver using the RTCM SC104 V2.3 correction format, are typically 1m over ranges up to 2,000km.

Veripos technical director Bobby Johnson said: “The addition of the station in South Africa enhances the coverage we are able to provide in that region, and we already have a number of customers committed to using our services. We also plan to establish an additional reference station at Walvis Bay in Namibia which should be operational early in 2007 and will complete our network for Southern Africa.” OSJ
