The DP World subsidiary will use digital services to monitor machinery on vessels operating in Mozambique and the Dominican Republic
P&O Maritime Logistics is deploying internet-of-things (IoT) networks on vessels it operates in ports and terminals in the Dominican Republic and Mozambique as part of its digitalisation drive for its harbour towage fleet. It is collaborating with Onboard to deploy this platform, which may be extended to other towage vessels in the fleet.
Sensors will be installed on he tugboats’ machinery in Q1 2026 and data will be available to crew members via a digital application.
Onboard expects insights from data to improve workflows, provide information to shore teams via the vessels’ satellite communications systems, and enable accurate job registration, while enhancing vessel optimisation and sustainability.
“P&O Maritime Logistics is taking an important step toward smarter, more-efficient operations,” said Onboard chief commercial officer Sander Zwanenburg.
P&O Maritime Logistics operates three tugs in the Dominican Republic supporting DP World’s operations at the container ship terminal at the Port of Caucedo.
In Mozambique, P&O Maritime Logistics provides towage, pilotage and mooring services with several tugboats in the Port of Maputo under a concession that is up for renewal in 2033.
