Eidesvik Offshore has joined forces with Norway-headquartered owner Agalas to build a fleet of construction support vessels (CSVs) for the subsea and offshore renewables sectors
Agalas had already ordered one vessel and reserved slots at a Turkish shipyard for up to four CSVs, all of which could be equipped with methanol combusting dual-fuel generator sets and battery-hybrid propulsion.
The first of these vessels will be owned by Eidsvik Agalas, of which Eidesvik retains a majority stake of 50.1% with 49.9% owned by Aglas, which has financial backing from northern Norway banks for the newbuildings.
This 100-m vessel is set to be built at Sefine Shipyard in Turkey with delivery in Q1 2026, when it will enter a 3-5-year time charter with Reach Subsea. Full management of the vessel, including crewing, will be provided by Eidesvik.
Eidesvik is once again pushing boundaries with the introduction of the world’s most eco-friendly CSV within its operating segments.
“This new asset aligns perfectly with our strategy, which is founded on sustainable shipping solutions and long-term partnerships with our clients,” said Eidesvik Offshore chief executive and president Gitte Gard Talmo.
“The versatile vessel is designed to meet the demands of both the oil and gas sector and the offshore wind industry. This flexibility increases our capabilities and competitiveness in the future energy mix.”
It was designed by NSK Ship Design and Agalas to undertake inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) work in the offshore oil, gas and renewables sectors. With a breadth of 21 m, accommodation for 100 people, a 150-tonne heave-compensated crane and a spacious deck area of 900 m2, it will be ready for IMR and construction work.
“Teaming up with Eidesvik on this opportunity allows us to combine the strengths of two Norwegian shipowners and create a world-leading vessel that integrates functionality, green technology, and highly skilled personnel,” said Agalas chief executive Mats Nygaard Johnsen.
Agalas chief commercial officer Mads Malling introduced the company’s strategy to build a fleet of these low-emissions CSVs at Riviera Maritime Media’s Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference in London, UK, in February 2024.
He said the timing for constructing these vessels was positive for the owner as demand for vessels in the subsea market is set to outpace supply in 2024 and potentially to the end of this decade. Both companies further expect significant growth in offshore windfarm construction and maintenance this decade.
