The South American tug owner has received certificates recognising its achievements in reducing its environmental impact in a nation with growing maritime and offshore industries
SAAM Towage has achieved certification from the International Standards Organization (ISO) for environmental management and emissions reduction in Brazil. The South American tug owner’s Brazilian subsidiary received the ISO 14001:2015 certificate in April 2025. ISO 14001 is a recognised international standard to ensure legal compliance and a reduced operational environmental impact.
SAAM Towage Brazil also recertified its quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, which establishes the requirements for promoting continuous service improvements. The certified scope covers vessel berthing and undocking services, towage and emergency assistance at all ports where SAAM operates in Brazil.
“These achievements reinforce our commitment to deliver differentiated and excellent service, which includes environmentally safe operations and effective concern for preservation and sustainability,” says SAAM Towage Brazil manager, Renata Ervilha. “The ISO 14001 certification is a very important milestone for SAAM and represents not only the result of the work done in 2024, but also efforts to formalise all the practices and improvements implemented in recent years.”
This certification of its environmental management system demonstrates SAAM Towage’s commitment to reducing environmental impacts, promoting the efficient use of resources, ensuring compliance with current legislation, engaging stakeholders and providing training on environmental issues.
In Brazil, SAAM Towage has a team of nearly 700 people and operates a fleet of 66 tugboats at 18 ports throughout the country.
