A shipyard in Brazil has secured contracts to build two TRAnsverse tugboats for a Danish shipowner expanding its fleet in the nation
Svitzer has contracted a Brazilian shipbuilder to construct two TRAnsverse tugboats that it designed in partnership with Robert Allan Ltd.
Rio Maguari Shipyard will build these two vessels at its facilities in Belém, in the state of Pará, for delivery in Q4 2027 and Q1 2028.
This is on top of a current series of tugs the shipyard is constructing for Svitzer to Robert Allan’s RAmparts 2300 design and with 70 tonnes of bollard pull.
Svitzer’s managing director for the Americas, Daniel Reedtz Cohen, said TRAnsverse tugs would enhance towage in Brazil.
“This is another strategic step in our operations in the country, generates gains on several fronts, and boosting the already-advanced fleet Svitzer operates in Brazil,” he said.
“We are also achieving one of our main objectives, which is to generate a value chain for the region where we operate, directly supporting the development of the maritime industry."
Rio Maguari delivered the azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat Svitzer Cassino to Svitzer in March and it is operating in the Port of Pecem.
This followed the delivery of Svitzer Copacabana, which is operating in Paranagua, Brazil, according to automatic identification system data, supporting LNG carriers at a floating storage and regassification vessel.
RAmparts 2300 design tugs each have a beam of 11 m, ABS class, a FiFi1 firefighting system, twin diesel main engines, two azimuth thrusters and a top speed of 13 knots.
Svitzer has 16 TRAnsverse tugs on order or in operation worldwide in size variations of 26 m, 29 m, 32 m and 35 m, and with electric, hybrid and conventional diesel-powered configurations.
