Hanwha Ocean (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) has tapped TMC Compressors to deliver the compressed air systems for four LNG carriers the South Korean shipbuilding giant is building for an undisclosed Asian shipowner
Hanwha Ocean has contracted TMC to provide control, service air and nitrogen feed air compressors to each of the four vessels. TMC has not disclosed the value of the contract.
TMC will manufacture the equipment in Europe and ship it Hanwha Ocean in South Korea.
“The system we deliver is designed to allow the vessel crew to maintain it themselves, which helps keep the vessel operators’ operating costs to a minimum,” said TMC sales and business development director Hans Petter Tanum.
The four LNG carriers will each have the capacity to carry 174,000 m3 of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
“We have delivered the marine compressed air systems to many of Hanwha Ocean’s 174,000-m3 LNG carrier newbuildings in the past,” Mr Tanum said.
In 2023, the company won deals from DSME for two LNG carriers under construction for Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime as well as Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and Jiangnan Shipyard to supply marine air lubrication system compressors for LNG vessels currently under construction.
