Finnish company takes the second of three LNG dual-fuel vessels and ExxonMobil aims to use a court ruling to kill off Trojan Horse resolutions by climate activist groups
ExxonMobil scares off shareholder activism – for now
Follow This, an Amsterdam-based environmental shareholder activism group, has withdrawn a climate resolution at the next ExxonMobil shareholder meeting in May, asking the oil giant to speed up its climate action plans. ExxonMobil sought to block the resolution in a Texas court.
“Given Exxon’s preference to fight a battle in court rather than allow shareholders the freedom of a vote at its annual meeting, we decided to withdraw the climate proposal,” Follow This founder Mark van Baal said in a statement.
The oil major is not content with the withdrawal of the resolution and aims to use a court ruling to kill off similar Trojan Horse resolutions by climate activist groups.
In a statement, ExxonMobil said it is continuing with the suit despite the withdrawal. “We believe there are still important issues for the court to resolve. There is no change to our plans,” ExxonMobil said in a statement.
