Felipe Gouvêa, a former chief executive of Sulnorte, has been appointed to lead Tug Network Team
Tug Network Team (TNT), an alliance of independent tug operators, has appointed Felipe Gouvêa as its executive director.
Mr Gouvêa will lead the venture as it enters a new phase through expansion in Europe from its roots in the Americas.
He was previously chief executive of Brazilian towage operator Sulnorte and has held senior positions across shipping, chartering, port operations and maritime strategy.
TNT connects towage operators across the Americas and Europe, covering 113 ports in 13 countries with a combined fleet of over 200 tugs.
It was originally formed in 2024 by Canada’s Group Ocean, Sulnorte in Brazil and Chilean owner CPT Towage to strengthen regional co-operation, exchange best practices, and build a stronger independent proposition for shipowners across the Americas.
In Q1 2026, it was expanded by the addition of Fairplay Towage with its focus in providing towage, ship-handling and offshore support services in northern Europe.
“Tug Network Team was built on a clear idea: independent operators can achieve more together while retaining the strengths that make them valuable in their own markets,” said Mr Gouvêa.
“The response from the market shows there is real interest in that model. The next step is to turn that momentum into stronger execution, with the right governance, clear standards and closer co-ordination between members. That is how we build long-term value for customers and for the alliance.”
Mr Gouvêa and representatives of the alliance’s member companies will be present at Riviera’s 28th International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in association with Caterpillar, 19-21 May 2026.
