With sights set on cost efficiencies for shipowners and managers, UniSea has acquired Maindeck to create an expanded vessel drydocking and repairs software suite
Maindeck is a fast-growing Norwegian start-up that has developed software to manage drydock projects, and with its acquisition, Skudeneshavn-headquartered UniSea said it is aiming to introduce a new and more comprehensive suite of software related to vessel maintenance.
“With the acquisition of Maindeck, we are taking an important step towards our goal of delivering a complete operational software suite for the maritime industry,” said UniSea chief executive Kurt Roar Vilhelmsen. “We are set to launch our most ambitious new software module, UniSea Maintenance, in H1 2024. We are confident this will strengthen our offering, as we work to help shipping companies digitalise their business processes.”
Drydocking to maintain and repair vessels is one of the most costly and important projects for a shipmanager, ultimately driven by the need to keep ships compliant with class requirements and regulatory mandates where voyage efficiency is currently a focus.
The new acquisitioin, as UniSea said, aims to build on the company’s market position relating to operations, safety crewing and technical management on board vessels, particularly those supporting the offshore oil, gas and renewables sectors.
“Partnering with UniSea, known for its innovation in maritime software and its clear vision for the future, makes me even more excited about what lies ahead,” said Maindeck chief executive and founder Sasan Mameghani.
“Integrating with its robust maintenance module and leveraging the capabilities of a larger software group, means Maindeck’s strengths will be further highlighted.”
