A European authority is one of the first to install a newly designed oil dispersant system on vessels hand helicopters
The Norwegian Coastal Authority has installed Ayles Fernie-supplied Clearspray 150 full bridge control (FBC) systems on five vessels and a Stratus helicopter underslung dispersant unit on two helicopters as part of Norway’s national oil spill preparedness network.
These units are now operational along Norway’s 100,000-km coastline and offshore areas, providing a rapid, flexible and effective pollution control capability.
Ayles Fernie, division of the Darcy Group, provided crew training, including both in-person instruction and video resources, and supported system deployment.
It developed Clearspray 150 FBC for deployment on vessels involved in marine pollution response. This can deliver up to 150 litres per minute of anti-pollution spray to disperse oil spills and can be controlled from a vessel bridge or deck.
It supports both concentrated (neat) and diluted dispersant use, enabling operators to adapt to varying operational and environmental conditions.
Clearspray 150 incorporates IP55-rated electric pump modules and corrosion-resistant gunmetal and stainless-steel pipework for dependable service in demanding marine environments.
Operation is managed via a Zone 2 ATEX-approved handheld tablet, with a bridge-mounted touchscreen displaying mirrored control data for a unified oversight.
Its motivator has a three-phase motor for a 50 Hz or 60 Hz power supply, and the whole unit has three manual valves, one as a shut-off, another for dispersant control and one to control recirculation flows.
Ayles Fernie said Clearspray 150 can be configured with spray arms, retractable spray arms and drop-out nozzles, to ensure even dispersant distribution across the spray pattern.
Flow rates can be adjusted and calibrated using meters, helping operators to maintain precise dispersant dosing for effective oil spill treatment.
