Maritime vetting organisation RightShip announced a new tie-up with port data-sharing platform NxtPort International to bring its recently launched Maritime Emissions Portal (MEP) to NxtPort’s marketplace for port communities
With the new agreement, RightShip will gain access to NxtPort International’s platform which deploys to 3000 public and private port entities, globally.
Ports within NxtPort’s network will be able to purchase access to RightShip’s Maritime Emissions Portal (MEP), a digital product that shows emissions inventory and air quality data.
RightShip said its Maritime Emissions Portal (MEP) is a targeted at boardroom level decisions by ports and terminal operators who are trying to lower ship-based emissions in port.
"MEP is the first part of a planned environmental social governance (ESG) solution for the ports and terminals sector from RightShip, helping to improve the air quality at ports and surrounding residential areas," RightShip said in a statement.
With Scope III emissions – indirect emissions that take place within a company’s supply chain footprint – increasingly targeted for reduction, the new data portal will combine AIS ship movement data and RightShip’s vetting data on vessels.
The tool combines Automatic Identification System (AIS) movement data and RightShip’s own vessel data to identify emissions problems and opportunities to reduce environmental impact.
MEP is being marketed as the first in a suite of products designed for ports and terminals to better understand and manage ship-based emissions within set zones around their local geography.
NxtPort International said its platform makes it possible for ports, terminals, ship owners and managers to securely access and combine data sources across multiple supply chains. The platform deploys to over 3000 public and private entities.
NxtPort CCO Alexander Dorhout Mees said “We hope that this partnership with RightShip will not only attract organisations who want to use the Maritime Emissions Portal in its current form, but also lead to new partners coming forward who might be able to offer data and collaborate with MEP. We want software vendors offering advanced digital solutions to see this product too - and want to get involved."
NxtPort said it aims to create more transparency across shipping, increasing operational efficiency, safety and revenue, as well as protecting the environment and human health.
RightShip CCO Gurpreet Singh said “Nxtport International brings wonderful experience and understanding of the port business, curating products with high impact potential for ports and terminals. We’re confident that we’ll support many new customers to embark on a journey to zero harm in the maritime industry.”
